Latha Raman, graduated in Architecture from College of Engineering, Trivandrum in 1990. She was a junior to Jaigopal in college. Since her college days she has been interested in studying the theoretical possibilities of achieving self-sufficiency in water through decentralised systems.

Immediately after graduation, she joined ESDC and was involved in the design and construction of over 40 building projects. Moreover, she worked as a technical Consultant to Programme for Community Organisation in Trivandrum and was involved in design and construction of about 150 houses and community buildings for the fishing community along with training. She was also involved in design and setting up of a Low Maintenance Sewage treatment system with Aquatic Weeds Lagooning for a Community Latrine for women at Pulluvila village in Thiruvananthapuram in association with Paul Calvert, Consultant Engineer from ITDG, UK. Along with the team of COSTFORD, she also worked on rehabilitation schemes for the earthquake affected in Latur, Maharashtra.

In 1996 she co-founded Inspiration and took charge as partner, director of Infrastructures section of Inspiration, which includes general co-ordinator of Inspiration's teams and activities. Since then, she has been involved in the design and construction management of a whole range of buildings from small residences to bigger building complexes involving a wide variety of eco-friendly cost-effective building technologies.

She has also been involved in the design and execution of Total water and waste water management systems for over 15 Projects; systems including open and covered rain water harvesting reservoirs, sewage treatment and disposal with anaerobic filters and waste water treatment and recycling with root-zone systems.

She has come out with various publications and written articles for newspapers on topics of Decentralised water systems. She has also come out with a compilation of a training manual for women masons in low cost housing for the Socio-Economic Unit, Thrissur.
