The Center for Science and Technology for Rural Development was founded primarily for the betterment of the socially weaker, oppressed and backward classes of the society.  For this purpose they used scientific and technological know-how to improve the lives of the poor by providing them with the basic necessities for a healthy living, alternate livelihood and employment options and education.   Hence, even the focus of their architectural practice has been to provide housing solutions to the communities that are cost-effective, respect their life style and community spirit and instill in them a sense of identity and pride.  Hence, they have been put in the category of ‘social processes'.
