UNDP

This is the development wing of the United Nations and their main role is to act as a facilitator for all the developmental activities initiated by the government.  The UNDP office in Orissa has initiated the Shelter Project to bring about a sustainable rehabilitation and development of the cyclone ravaged village of Orissa.  They have used the medium of appropriate building technologies to construct cost-efficient buildings, train people and provide them employment options in the alternate building sector.  They have achieved a staggering result in the number of buildings constructed and the number of people trained and sensitized to appropriate building technologies, in a short spell of 3 years, and hence they have been put in the category of ‘social processes'.
