Philosophy

They believe in designing things purely from the functional point of view and concerning with the primary aspects of human comforts such as cross ventilation, heat insulation, open well courtyard system. They believe in designing things from the micro level, such as signage, product design and interiors to the macro level, such as townships, residential colonies, etc. They also like to experiment with cost effective and appropriate technology. But they claim to be more interested in the issues that are global, broader and more urban in nature.

But for them the primary aim of a design is the fulfillment of the clients needs.

For them the issue of appropriate architecture is more to do with appropriate technologies, which are relevant for context of the design. Also the relevance and measure of appropriateness should be judged over the scale of time.

As quoted in a newspaper article on the KVK, they define Appropriate Architecture to be “a concept where local skills and local materials are utilized to construct unconventional, low cost and eco-friendly structures.”
